Employment Specialist


The successful candidate will have a diploma or degree in areas of Human/Social Services or Employment/Career Counselling, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field.  Demonstrated success in case management, client support, job developing and/or recruitment is required.  Candidates should be confident in their skills and be committed to maintaining a high level of professionalism.  This is a contract position which includes a 37.5 hour work week and entails service provision throughout Northumberland County.


Required Responsibilities/Qualifications:


  • Manage case files and facilitate ongoing client support and follow up
  • Develop comprehensive employment plans
  • Be knowledgeable regarding career assessment, labour market research and job search techniques
  • Develop, monitor and support placements/job trials through to successful and sustainable employment
  • Conduct employability assessments for Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) clients
  • Access the hidden job market to generate job leads
  • Conduct outreach/recruitment/cold calls to employers
  • Establish collaborative relationships with employers
  • Match job requirements with client skills
  • Perform job development and job carving for harder-to-serve clients
  • Provide job coaching and extensive job retention support
  • Market clients to employers; advocate on the client’s behalf
  • Assist clients in preparing for employment interviews
  • Attend business events/functions in the community
  • Develop and facilitate workshops
